What value I see as a teacher in blogging!
In using blogging as a way of communicating with other teachers and students, I feel it is a quick and effective way to get ideas across to other people. People can take their time, too, to think of a reply and how they might want to express themselves while posting their answers.

There is evidence that students are more careful in how they write when they have an audience wider than just the teacher. I have found it is still useful to create a long response in a word processor (with spell check) and then paste it into a blog post.
ReplyDeleteYour point about thinking about responses is a good one. I think that most students would rather text message than talk on a phone for that same reason. They aren't put on the spot and they can think before they speak which in many cases is a good thing. A blog could be looked at in a similar way, a student can stop and think before "talking" and they can type and retype until they feel that they got it right. Good comment!
